BMW 2002

BMW 2002 Features

BMW 2002 Series helped BMW become the undisputed world champion of sports sedansThe evolution was complete with the 2002. BMW produced a 2002 ti (120hp) and a 2002 tii (130hp and 120mph top speed). The 2002 Turbo was unveiled at the 1973 Frankfurt auto show. Only 1672 cars were built in 1973 and 1974.

Here's why:

  • Touring Model - The Touring models were one of the world's first hatch backs. The cars were produced with 1.6, 1.8 and 2-liter carburetor versions. A 2-liter fuel injected version was also made using the tii engine. The 2000 Touring model was available with an automatic transmission in 1971 and 1972. The rear seat could be folded down in the Touring, providing a lot of room. Unlike the later 2002 Sedans, the Touring body continued to use round tail lights throughout its production run.
  • Cabriolet Model - The rare New Class convertibles were built for BMW by Baur (today, IVM Automotive) as a true cabriolet and as a Targa (roll-bar) model in 1600 and 2002 styles. Mechanically, the convertibles are identical to the coupes, except they are two inches shorter than the coupes. Baur's Targa version of the 02 series was introduced in 1971 for the European market. Few were imported into North America. The Targa model had a sunroof and a convertible rear windscreen.
  • Turbo Model - The ultimate New Class sedan was the 2002 Turbo. The 2002 Turbo was introduced at the 1973 Frankfurt Auto Show. Production stopped in July 1975. Between July 1973 and July 1975, only 1,672 models were built. None were certified for sale in the USA. The Turbo produced 170 hp at 5800 rpm, with the same basic 2.0-liter engine as the 2002ti. The Turbo was made in only two colors, Chamonix white and Polaris silver, with a tri-color M stripe on the sides and front spoiler.

  • Final Cost: This is derived by adding shipping to the invoice amount and subtracting any rebates and hold back.
